Bridging the Gap – Autism Consultation

Empowerment Through Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is designed to help individuals with challenges lead independent lives. For the autistic population, the focus is often on improving self-regulation, sensory processing, motor skills, and encouraging social participation. In the grand narrative of an autism diagnosis, OT is a pivotal chapter, providing structured interventions in children’s natural environments—be it home, therapy gym or school.

Why Occupational Therapy Through Us

Working with us can help your child’s ability to plan and carry out movements, boost muscle strength, and increase balance and coordination to help connect more effectively with the world around them. Our program focuses on:

  • Sensory Integration: Helping your child make sense of the world around them.
  • Motor Skills Development: Aiding in the development of fine and gross motor skills for day-to-day tasks.
  • Regulation Skills: Helping your child manage sensory inputs and emotional responses more effectively.
  • Social Skills: Encouraging positive interactions in various social settings.

Our play-based therapy model supports your child’s learning development and growth, as well as social skills. After all, play is the primary occupation of childhood! It’s also one of the reasons occupational therapy can be so much fun!

Therapy starts with an evaluation to obtain your child’s baseline and help determine goals with the help of the child and parents. We work to balance the “brain-body connection” through therapies focusing on purposeful motor skills, regulation, and sensory integration.

  • Navigate an obstacle course to help improve body awareness!
  • Improve visual tracking and executive functioning skills by using fun things like swings and a climbing wall!
  • Improve fine motor coordination skills and executive functioning and through building circuits and playing with putty.
  • Increase brain body organization through tasks that involve using both sides of the body like throwing and catching a ball or pulling on a rope hand over hand
  • We adjust and modify as needed to help meet your child’s needs!

Play With a Purpose

Our “play with a purpose” model includes play-based activities that are intentionally designed or structured to achieve specific learning or developmental objectives.

Sessions available:

Individual sessions – 55 minutes

Group Sessions – 90 minutes

We focus on tracking your child's progress.

Our therapy provides valuable insight of your child’s abilities, challenges, and progress, which can be used to advocate for services, accommodations, or support in educational and community settings. We help pinpoint specific areas where your child may be experiencing challenges or delays in functioning which enables us to create personalized treatment plans. We measure progress by tracking your child’s progress over time, creating intervention strategies based on your child’s strength, preferences, and responses to previous interventions.

Our therapy also provides valuable documentation of your child’s abilities, challenges, and progress, ensuring a shared understanding of your child’s needs and promoting coordinated care. Most services are available both in-person and via telehealth.
