Bridging the Gap – Autism Consultation

Has Your Child Been Diagnosed With Autism?

According to the CDC, 1:36 children are diagnosed with Autism. Currently, there is no cure for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that affects individuals differently, and its exact cause is not fully understood. It is generally considered a lifelong condition, and interventions typically focus on improving the individual’s quality of life and helping them develop skills to navigate the challenges associated with autism. An autism diagnosis doesn’t change who your child is, and with the right support, they can progress . It’s important to pursue early intervention, learn about your child’s unique ASD profile, and connect with support groups to help both you and your child.

What Makes us Different...

Year after year, people are choosing BTG because we offer a holistic approach that goes beyond therapy by including advocacy. This dual focus ensures our families not only receive the necessary developmental support, but also thrive in their academic environment. Our commitment to both therapy and educational advocacy sets us apart, providing families with a well-rounded service that addresses your child’s needs, both at home and in school.

How do I get Started?

To get started, we recommend scheduling a comprehensive consultation to discuss your options. This initial meeting can help us design a tailored plan to determine the appropriate supports for your family member.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes, we do! We would be happy to discuss your child’s therapy needs or educational concerns during a free initial consultation. This is a great opportunity to determine if Bridging the Gap is the right fit for you. Please call us to schedule an appointment!

How do I make an appointment?

You can make an appointment by contacting us. You do not need a referral.

Do you take Insurance?

At BTG, we are dedicated to offering personalized, high-quality care tailored to the unique needs of each child. To maintain this level of individualized attention and flexibility in treatment planning, we have chosen not to accept insurance. Insurance companies often impose restrictions on the types of services covered and limit the number of therapy sessions, which can hinder our ability to provide the most effective care. By not participating in insurance networks, we can focus solely on the best interests of your child, ensuring they receive the comprehensive support they deserve.

Can I get reimbursed through my insurance?

We understand that navigating therapy costs can be challenging, so we offer the option of providing a Superbill for each session. A Superbill is an itemized receipt that includes all the necessary information for you to submit a claim directly to your insurance company. While reimbursement rates and eligibility vary depending on your insurance plan, many families find that submitting a Superbill allows them to recoup a portion of their therapy expenses. We are committed to assisting you in this process and can provide guidance on how to submit these claims to maximize your reimbursement.

How much are sessions?

Please contact us to inquire about our rates. Rates vary in accordance with services rendered.

How do you support someone with Autism ?

Supporting an autistic person involves understanding their unique needs and preferences while promoting inclusivity and respect.

  • Presume Competence: always assuming an individual has the ability to think, learn, and understand regardless of their outward appearance and/or ability to communicate.
  • Educate Yourself: Learn about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to better understand the challenges and strengths of autistic individuals. Recognize that autism is a spectrum, and each person may have different abilities and characteristics.
  • Respect Individual Differences: Autistic individuals, like everyone else, have unique personalities and preferences. Respect their individuality and avoid making assumptions based on stereotypes.
  • Effective Communication: Be clear and direct in your communication. Some autistic individuals may prefer visual aids or written instructions. Use concrete language and be patient, allowing them enough time to process and respond.
  • Create a Predictable Environment: Many autistic individuals thrive in predictable and structured environments. Establish routines and provide advance notice of any changes. This helps reduce anxiety and stress.
  • Be Mindful of Sensory Sensitivities: Sensory sensitivities are common in individuals with autism. Be aware of factors like loud noises, bright lights, or strong smells that may be overwhelming. Create a sensory-friendly environment when possible.
  • Offer Support during Transitions: Transitions can be challenging for autistic individuals. Provide support during transitions by offering clear instructions, visual schedules, or countdowns to help them prepare for changes.
  • Encourage and Celebrate Strengths: Autistic individuals often have unique talents and strengths. Encourage and celebrate their achievements, whether they are academic, artistic, or related to their special interests.
  • Respect Personal Space: Be mindful of personal space and physical contact. Some individuals may have strong preferences regarding touch, so always ask for consent and respect their boundaries.
  • Support Social Interactions: Many autistic individuals face social challenges. Encourage social interactions in a supportive and understanding manner. Provide opportunities for socialization, but also respect their need for alone time.
  • Advocate for Inclusivity: Encourage and promote inclusivity in the community, workplace, and other social settings. Advocate for understanding and acceptance to create a more supportive environment for autistic individuals.
  • Involve Autistic Individuals in Decision-Making: Whenever possible, involve the individual in decisions that affect them. This empowers them and promotes a sense of autonomy.
